I also have an ASUS laptop, and my battery usually also gives the status of 'Plugged in, not charging'. However, I remember that ASUS uses a system whereby the battery will only start charging when it gets down below 95% charge. This is to extend the life of the battery. Battery life is determined by the number of charge/discharge cycles. My Windows 10 was installed on the 30/8 and I have seen the status change to 'Plugged in, charging' on a couple of occasions.

Same with my ASUS. Last night still not charging (after last win 10 updates a few days ago). Posted question re problem last night; this morning problem has gone away. One of two things must have been solution: 1) Unplugged it for half hour and let it run on battery; 2) Several Updates had just installed, shut down my computer in the middle of something; when I turned it back on, it showed charging. One of those coincidences that is confusing; but I think it was the update that did it. Got gray hair over this, but also learned a few things in trying to figure it out.

It is (or may be) a WIn 10 thingy. Charge will gradually drop down a little below 80% (on a Sony 64 bit I7) and stay there for days or weeks. At some point, it will then recharge to 95-98% (when & why- I don't know). I did not notice it in Win 7; but maybe I was not looking that closely.

The thing being is before, I could expect 5 hours on battery, but now maybe only 4. I guess I accept the idea that the battery will last longer only charged to 80%; but I suspect it has more to do with overcharging batteries that can sometimes burn up.

My ASUS battery light now shows solid red which means it is charging; however when I hit the icon for battery, it shows 90% and tells me it will be fully charged in 11 min. This is now a constant state as long as I have it plugged in, whether I am on the computer or have shut down and restarted. Haven't tried letting the battery drain down, afraid to fool with it anymore. But I am guessing that is something that Win 10 has stuck in here as a gift(???) to keep battery from over charging/overheating--since so many of us (with different makes of computer) had the problem right after new installation or updates; and since mine also started charging again immediately after an update/shut down. Sorry for all those people out there who are all upset and haven't discovered this string yet. Misery loves company and I am glad to know I was not the only one to go through this. Thanks, everyone, for sharing..Keep the rest of us posted if you have any further changes re battery. For now, I will stop worrying and just be glad the little alert light is not flashing at me.

After a recent update of windows 10 my battery of my Asus laptop will not charge anymore.

I have read the posts here and tried many things, but nothing has helped so far:

1. It's not due to the fact that it is sufficiently charged, because it's at 0 %.

2. The Power troubleshooter did not change anything. It only optimized the energy conservation schedule.

3. Uninstalling the driver and re-installing it and removing the battery did not change anything.

4. The command 'powercfg –restoredefaultschemes': did not fix the problem.

5. It shouldn't be a problem with the battery itself, because the laptop is only 1.5 years old and the problem was present immediately after the windows 10 update. Before the update it was working fine.

What else can I do except restoring my system to the settings before the update? Or is the latter the only and best option?
